Lets see, you want to tow a 7000-7500 pound truck on a trailer that weights aroound 2500 pounds, for a total of 10000 pds. Using a truck that weights what, 5500-6500 pounds.
NO PROBLEM. It's stopping it that will kill you. The TOWING truck should ALWAYS COMMAND the load, not the other way around. I would invest a little more $ now and get the bigger truck (They would likely match the price of the 1/2 ton toward the end of the month, on an evening sale if your stern...)
I admit it, I've towed TOO much with an old Ford (sacralige) F150, across country and been lucky (Command Car with Tow Bar, and a Command Car with Heavy trailer) The Tow BAr was easier from the weight standpoint, but no additional brakes of the trailer to help. ALSO, I loaded about 1500 pounds into the back for the F150 to distribute the weight to the TOW truck, allowing better control.
For some reason a Tow Bar on a Dodge just doesn't like to go around corners, The Dodge likes going straight, always. My 2 cents worth, BUY A BIGGER RIG! Regards WAW
