I just recently got my Cummins diesel 2500 quad cab, but prior to that I have always had 1/2 ton Dodges. I have pulled M-37's and Power Wagons with no difficulty with the following combination. Anything less is asking for trouble. 1) A 10,000 lb weight distributing hitch properly set up to put weight on the whole truck and not just on the bumper (mine is for sale now that I have the cummins 3/4 ton) and 2) Trailer brakes with a good controller like the Tekonsha Sentinel. It can be done and really is not a problem. Be sure to include the weight of the trailer when figuring your load. I recommend a 3/4 ton truck, and even then the weight distributing hitch would not be overkill if you dont have the overload springs. Just my $.02 worth. Good tires are mandatory also-Load range D or E for heavy weight at hiway speeds.
