There seems to be a gap in this account of history, of about 11,940 years, at least as to beer. Up until time of prohibition and then WWII, beer in America was made by many smaller breweries, rather than a few big ones, and tended to be darker and heavier than most domestic light beers made today. The double whammy of prohibition and then WWII (with most of the beer drinkers going over seas), many smaller breweries closed, and light beer was made by the few big breweries left for women still stateside during WWII. Beer in the US stayed light until the legalization of home brewing in the 1970's during the Carter Administration (his highest achievement, IMO) and then the advent of micro-breweries.

So, while I am personally firmly in the hunter-gatherer group, I much prefer a heavy micro-brew anytime over a B__ Lite, etc. Cheers!
