A 1968 truck is not likely to have a poly motor as the original motor as production of the LA 318 in trucks was already going strong in 1967.
The info you got is off the data tag, I would check the engine number, and the tag on the tranny, as non of that may be original.
Also, even if the tag did match the engine and tranny a NP540 might be too big for the conversion you want to do, most folks use the NP435.
