I have a 1959 POWER WAGON/POWER GIANT that I bought. The thing runs good, but I hate the column shift 3 speed (3 on the tree)Also, my clutch does not engage until the peddle is all the way out, so i guess I need a new clutch. I am a mopar muscle car guy with no knowledge of these trucks.
My questions is this. This is a 318 Poly motor that has a 4barrel on it. Runs good but the trans appears to be the weak link.
If I put another trans in it, like a newer mod 4 speed, which one am I looking for. I figure a truck 4 speed or even a newer 5 speed may work? Isnt the motor the same as a L.A 318?
I want to keep this truck and am going to re-paint/ restore it. Its got some cool nooks and crannies in the front and very art-deco looking. Going to do it in its original color, yellow, and going to use a black accent with it. But, its drives like crap with the trans and non-power steering. Any simple fixes or reccomemdations for this rig?
I sure would love to make it a nice rig that I could drive 60 miles a day without breaking my arms.
