Power Giant brake light stays on

My '58 Town Wagon Power Wagon has a problem with the brake lights. They work normally but once the truck is turned off and sits a while, one and sometimes both brake lights come on. I replaced the sending unit on the master cylinder but that made no difference. The wiring diagram shows the red wire to the sender is hot all the time, it's not keyed to the ignition switch. My '58 W200 doesn't have this problem. What's wrong?
