Both the remianing 1940 VC 6 Carryalls have body tags on that reflect the code for an ordinary 1940 panel van, and the shells look to have been hand-altered - both the windows and the rear tailgat / liftgate which were made from a pair of van doors.

By the time 1941 Carryalls came round they had thier own body tag number prefix and the window openings, tailgate, and liftgate were factory stamped.

I'd suggest that the VC 6 probably was the first Dodge Carryall, although it's quite possible some similar coachbuilt units were made ont he 1939 panel van - we've just never seen any.
