Sounds like somebody put a block together with all one kind of rods? Isn't the oil slot at the joint to the cap? then the oil is for lifters. If squirt hole is aimed upwards, then oil is squirted to oil pins and cool piston. The oil tends to squirt through the holes when the oil holes in the crank line up- it would make a difference in the direction of squirt. I'd mix up your parts til I got a matched set of L/R rods with proper oil holes. The L/R rods are offset to allow for the siamesed cylinders, they would interchange except for the oil squirts.
