Once you strip off the fabric and foam or padding you will see a steel frame. Now this is where things get interesting. If it has a coil spring wire frame arrangement you may have to make a new wire frame from some spring wire - which is availaable from many upholstery shops.

If it is a steel tube and wiggle spring frame. All you need to do is cut out 4 inches from the tube ,reweld and leave out one or 2 wiggle srings.

Cut and reglue the foam with 3m soft top adhesive.
