They are from the rubber tire tread being sanded off by the famed 'slickrock' It occurs when you are under a hard pull in LOW-LOW and your front axle (which is geared slightly lower) is pulling hard, there is no visible tire slippage just the sandpaper like rock removing microns of rubber! The only exception is on turns where the lockers instinctlively skid one tire or the other! Unless you are running 70 PSI on ancient old NDT militarys will you ever slip a tire a lot!!!
