A friend came over to my place with his Rubicon...a very cool Jeep I thought. We took it into the woods and to an uphill muddy section. The Rubicon did not make it through, even with locked differentials. Neiher can my Kiote 4X4 tractor (with turf tires) make it through.

But my M-37 with 37 inch super swampers does. So does a Power Wagon with chains.

I think ground clearance is very important in these conditions and M-37s with big tires have a lot of this. I don't think the M-37 would do so well on rocks and tough hard trails...maybe Moab type stuff, as the Rubicon would. At the recent military meet at Fort Custer, a military Blazer got stuck in a mud hole where our M-37 went right through.

But Paul Cook is right, our M-37s and Power Wagons are not exactly designed for the freeway. So I conclude, you simple need more than one 4X4 in order to have one ideally suited to the existing conditions. Who can argue with that except perhaps the wife?
