I don't know about a slight of hand, but it's true that ethanol is not the answer. But since we already process the corn for other products, (know how much corn syrup goes into soda pop?) ethanol generation and use helps. Here in the Midwest, most ethanol blend is 10%, but there are government vehicles that use an 85% blend. That's 85% ethanol, 15% gas. Biodiesel makes sense in the same way. It's not political, (although polititions will jump on anything that they think will get votes), just better use of what we have.
