Why install an electric fuel pump when the original mechanical pumps have proven to be virtually trouble free 40 years or so?
I have 10 vehicles...9 have mechanical pumps & I have never ever had a mechanical pump let me down. The only mechanical pumps I've seen in my life go bad were due to rusty gas tanks where debris has become lodged under the valves within the pump...I don't imagine the electric would handle the debris either.
The one electric pump I have that came in my bush fire truck will be coming out & being replaced with an original mechanical pump just as soon a I have time to throw it in the garbage.
The only excuse I've ever seen for an electric fuel pump is on a Hotrod or when your cam eccentric for a mechanical pump has worn off with age...a symptom I've heard of but personally never witnessed.
