The Break looked clean all the way across, I really doubt it was cracked before. I suppose if it was in place moisture may not have been able to get to it to rust it. But I would think that it would have a different color or something, indicating that it had broke before. I had three different backyard mechanics look at it (they just happened to be at the nieghbor's house when I brought it over to show him), and we all thought the same thing, "it broke all at once". As for the brazing I have never had much luck with it, though I've done more of that than cast iron welding. Either way we may never know if it would have stood up, my luck seemed extraordinary today, the aforementioned local ffpw guru just happened to have one that was in pretty good shape, and I just caught him before he threw it out. It was actually in a trailer headed to the local recycling outfit with some other odds and ends. They had loaded the trailer yesterday, and were headed to the recyclers today at noon. I picked the part up from him at around 9a.m. And you can bet that I checked thier trailer over very carefully for any other treasures that might need a home. I offered to pay him for the part, but he refused saying that he was tired of tripping over it. You meet the nicest and most generous people in this hobby!!
