A client of mine had a house fire (electrical problem started it) with extensive damage before the fire company could put it out.
After the insurance guy made his inspection, the people started the ball rolling on rebuild, etc.
The people were soon shocked when the contractor said he had to try and reclaim and re-use some of the framing lumber that was blackened/charred on the outside as the insurance company was dictating cost saving measures to him. My clients were upset as they thought that this could contribute to odor, etc, and wondered about the strength, etc. Much arguing ensued.
I was surprised the insurance company went this route, because even if technically singed and charred lumber may be O.K. structurally, the bad press had to be worth somthing? or at least I thought.
Just a consideration for you with your insurance company process you are going through.
