Half way to vertical= 45. Now start looking at gravel piles, see how they all stack up to about 45 d ? Except where the pile is eroded from the bottom, that makes a cliff. You could do a bunch of math with engine torque, gear ratios, weight, etc, and figure out a theoretical climb angle, but it would ignore traction. That is what many manufacturors do.
