Heard this on the radio yesterday, supposedly true: There used to be an ourang-outang at the (Cincinnati?) zoo who escaped from his locked cage several times overnight when nobody was watching. Every time it happened, the door was unlocked and he and his family were outside. Finally the zookeeper discovered that the ourang-outang had a piece of wire hidden in his mouth, and had been using it to pick the lock after the zookeeper went home for the night.
The zookeeper in this story said that if you leave a screwdriver in a gorilla's cage, he will look at it, maybe pick it up, then set it down and ignore it. If you leave it in a chimpanzee's cage, he'll pick it up, wave it around, holler, threaten the other chimpanzees with it, and then throw it away. If you leave it in a ourang-outang's cage, he'll quietly hide it and then use it to escape when nobody's watching.
