Union?? I worked in Washington State. The only union some shops run under is the machinists union. Mechanics union was busted right after Hoffa disappeared. The guys I know that work at dealers make anywhere from 9 to 19 an hour flatrate, which doesn't sound that bad but the average home in King county costs $365,000, 40 K a year ain't gonna get u a house. I worked for some big corporations and made them lots of money but they were unwilling to compensate me and the other guys like me so we all moved on. Just before I left the business, I was training drop outs how to read a tape measure. Or training non english speaking people what an inch was with big pictures. that is who is working on your car nowadays.
