Had a scary incident at the Dodge dealer here. The turbo on my 2005 went haywire...started making some crazy noises & this has been getting worse for about a month. I towed my trailer to Portland a week or so back & literally thought I wasn't going to make it home. I took it to the dealer & took the service manager for a ride & he agreed it was the turbo & they ordered a new turbo & related parts.
I had the intake off last Weekend because I was changing my oil & it gives better access to the oil filter. When I had it off I was spinning the turbo & it felt great...no play & spins perfect like it should. I was confused?
I drop the truck off yesterday to have them switch the new turbo in...problem solved. No more noises & seems to work perfect.
I phoned this morning & asked to talk to the mechanic so I could see the old turbo & see what gives. He comes to the phone & tells me the turbo has already been sent back for a core to DC & that what the problem was is that something inside the turbo was damaged & causing a noise...maybe something distorted or rubbing?
Ohh..that explains everything.
I may as well had my wife explain to me the problem & these are the guys we let work on our trucks?
What happened to the good old days where mechanics were trained to diagnose & fix problems? Sheesh...young wipper snappers.
