I was looking into this with Paul in NY & Dana 70's would be a very easy modification.
On a P/W they virtually bolt straight in other than moving the rear spring perches.
On M37 the rear is easy...the front is medium easy. To do the front would require shortening the drivers side axle tube roughly 4" & having one custom axle built for it.
Advantage? Better braking, way stronger, availability of virtually any lockers from electric to at vacuum to a limited slip or anything in between. You could get almost any gearing & you can either run the GM 8 bolt pattern or you can run 6 bolt Dana 70's with 16" Budd rims where even at VPW's Fairfield rally most guys wouldn't notice the extra bolt unless they were looking for it.
I would rate the later of the 2 modifications as less offensive than an engine swap & about on par with a disc brake conversion...but that's just one Crazy big Canadian's opinion!
