more o.d. trans questions

other than the nv4500 are there any o.d. transmissions that one could adapt to a ffpw?and if so any casting / part #'s to identify. i've heard an np540 is one option. is there such a beast and how do i identify it? i'm collecting info so when i go junkyard shopping i'll know what i'm looking for. the nv4500's seem to be out of reach financially. thanks, jim.
