You can get some really thick goop to put in there. I guess it's leaking past the felt seals because theres groves and small scratches on the steering trunion( correct terminolgy?) but everything else leaks also, so I dont really care that much.
A little leaky lube dosent bother me, It's when things stop leaking that I get a bit nervous.
My first real job was as a helicopter mechanic, the older guys I learned from always told me that if a gearbox or engine stopped leaking, that's because it's out of oil. I just always carried a rag in my pocket, a couple cans of Mil-L-23699 in a ammo can with other spare parts, and got to the aircraft before any rookie pilots showed up for pre-flight to wipe up the oil drips. Otherwise they start asking all kinds of questions and it becomes a real pain in the behind.
I guess if I had a show truck that did'nt see a lot of road time except on a trailer, I'd use grease to keep the underside cleaner.
