Tim, I was basing my observation on the way that the NP 205 works internally and the way that it transmits power through the gears when in 2wd, 4hi, 4lo, etc. I know that the linkage wasn't originally set up to shift as you are recommending, but I simply can't see how the gear positions could be possible to select those gear combinations. I rebuilt the t-case in my F250 back in 1999, and I guess I have slept since then. I would recommend getting a cut-away and figuring out how it works so that you can decide whether it will work.
