Maybe I should rephrase my question; the NP205 isn't "designed" to be run with the rear axle disconnected, but according to several web sites, you can modify the shift rails to fool it into running that way.

The link below will take you to a web page that goes step-by-step on modifying the NP205 shift rail detents to get independent axle control. It references a 4-Wheel & Off Road article from August 2000.

I would still like to know how similar the NP200 is to the NP205 internally?
