I've put a winch on a 3/4 ton a couple of times, including my WC 53.

It is possible to fit a PTO to the transmission in place, you just need to mess about with the shift lever which has to be half on and half off to get the unit into position, and one of the top mounting bolts is a swine.

To do it right you should fit a PTO unit WITH ANY SHIMS THAT CAME WITH IT or you might get a constant noise from the driving gears where they bind a little. You need to clean the PTO, shim, and transmission faces, drain and fill the oil again, that sort of thing. It would probably be easier with the transmission cover panel off but I have done it with the panel in position.

Buy a complete winch front too, including the short grille and the matching radiator side panels so you can get it right. If you are lucky you'll find a set of bolt-on frame extensions and that's even easier.
