With that much gunk, you will come out ahead by cleaning out the pan bottom. Then it would be best to stick with the good old 30Wt. without detergent. Otherwise, the oil will keep picking up dirt and gunk (containing metal) that will cause excess wear on the engine guts. If you rebuild the engine, that's the time to switch to a detergent, multi-vis oil, which will keep the already clean innards that way. Hope this helps.
