Got round to taking a hard look at the engine in the '40 hard cab pickup.
It has no engine code on the boss, and it is difficult to tell whether it has ever had one that has been scrubbed off either.
Block only has D/N casting mark with the pointer set to N and the usual cast clock face with a pointer set to the four o'clock position. Head has the D/N mark (set to N again) and 1.28.55 cast onto it, clock face with pointer indicating one o'clock, and seems to have been dark metallic green originally.
I'd guess from the marks that it is a standard '55 230 that has just been dropped in, but the mounted equipment (like the crankcase vent,) is right for a VC as is the fact that there is no external oil filter system at all.
Anyone have any guesses ?
