The amount you can turn the driveshaft with the tires on the ground seems substantial with these trucks. It is due to alot more than the ring and pinion gear lash (clearance). The large axle splines have some movement, but the rear axle still should be tighter than the front. The front has alot more movement because of the steering knuckle universals (you should look in there sometime!) and they have splines at both the differential and the drive hub.

I just rebuilt my front end and replaced the differential assembly with one that had very good lash. The new components exibit quite a bit of movement. Probably can turn my front driveshaft 1/8 turn each way. I wouldn't pull it unless it's noisy or hot. You should have seen the diff. I pulled out of mine...worn, large pieces of the ring gear corroded away...the new one works just as well, makes just as much noise...
