If, as you say, this engine was remanufactured in the 1950's, that means the seals, gaskets and rings are about 40 years old.

If I were you, I sure would add in additional cost to replace all the seals, gaskets and rings.

Also, be very careful about scoring bearings. Assuming there is any lube left on them, it has probably dried up. I'd suggest disconnecting the oil line and hooking up a oil reservoir and force oil through the engine via air pressure. I would not turn the crank without doing this.

The oil reservoir would be nothing more than a tank filled with oil and an outlet connected to the oil fitting in the block. The oil would be forced out the bottom of the reservoir or tank by an air fitting at the top that you could connect to an air hose. Be careful not to run the tank out of oil and force air into the engine.
