judging by some of the posts there appears to be some confusion on the spacing of tires used in dual service
spacing is measured from the center of one tread to the center of the other
the MINIMUM spacing is listed in all tire tech books and depends upon:
1. the tire cross section ie 8.25
(rim diameter does not matter)
2. the width of the wheel the tire is
mounted on
3. the tire type ie Bias or Radial
example
from the tire & rim year book
Bias Ply tire
8.25 mounted on 6.50 wheel 10.6inch MIN
from the michelin truck tire guide
Radial type 'X' tire
8.25R mounted on 6.50 wheel 11.1 inch Min
Old Tire Man (OTM)
with lots of Tech Manuals
