A GPS works great to validate your speedometer, but can also help you beat a ticket in court. I have a mapping program with GPS on my laptop. I always have it up an running on a Jotto Desk in my company car. Last Thursday a Arkansas Highway Patrolman was following me on to the interstate. Traffic was heavy and once the entrance ramp straightened I floored it to get up to speed to blend into traffic. Knowing the patrolman was behind me I did not accelerate above the speed limit, but the patrolman pulled me over claiming that I exceeded the speed limit while getting on the interstate. I was polite but frank about knowing he was behind me and that I wasn't foolish enough to speed. He let me go with a verbal warning.
Had he ticketed me I would have taken my laptop to court and played back the entire event. The software records my speed, direction, elevation, time, and plays it back on the map. All for about $130 bucks.
