The problem here is twofold:
1) State Farm is nortorious for denying or scrimping on legitimatate claims.
2) The case for liability as to the other party sounds good, but because their insured now denies responsibility they have an excuse to deny coverage.
If they deny coverage, then you will not talk them into paying by yourself - you have to sue them and will need a lawyer. If you have a good case, and the evidence you describe suggests that you do, then a NJ lawyer should be able to take it on a contingency fee basis. Expect this to take a long time to resolve.
