WC54: Used compressed air on tank and no luck!!!!!

I filled up the tank with more gas yesterday and it is high enough to see it at the base within the fill spout. I used compressed air and blew air back INTO the tank and I hear it gurggle. So I take off the compressed fitting expecting to have gas pour out and I'm ready to quicky re-attack the main gas line------nothing. No gas comes out. Shouldn't gas come out of the hole when the gas level inside the tank is HIGHER than the hole? What is the WC secret? THX in advance.
