I've been building motor mounts for my W500 & i needed some 1" spacers for under my transmission crossmember. I've been fighting with my hand drill trying to drill 1/2" bolt holes & finally I decided I was going on a search for good drill bits today. The local tool store here has gone from having high quality US & Canadian made tools to now having Delta, Samona, & several other crappy low low quality Chinese brands.(Yes, I'm afraid Delta are made in China now.)
Now don't get me wrong...I'm not bashing China...I'm sure they can & do make high quality tools & drill bits...they just aren't being imported here. Us North American's have gotten a reputation it seems of wanting price & quantity over quality. That's what sells so that's what companies Import.
I went on a Mission today in search of some high quality USA made drill bits. 4 hours later & $135 later I had a 1/16"-1/2" set & let me tell you...that was the best $135 I've ever spent.
These drill bits will litterally cut through 1" plate like it's cheese.
When are people going to start wising up?
The future is obviously headed towards offshore tools but there must be a way of demanding better quality out of them...no?
