Eye protection?

I spent 2 1/2 hours in the emergency ward last night, (2 1/4 hours waiting and 15 minutes getting worked on) to remove a piece of debris removed from my eye. This is the third trip in 6 months, something has to change. The first time I was using the cutting torch, I made a cut, removed my torch goggles grabbed a grinder to give id a quick hit before going back to the torch. I didnt put my glasses back on for that 10 seconds and embedded a sliver of steel in my eye. About 2 weeks later I was doing the same sort of thing and I thought" this time I will be smarter" I also have a torch goggle that the dark lense swings up to leave a clear safty lense. I dont usually like them because they are heavier than the regular ones. I had the tinted lense up and when I flipped it down it knocked a chunk of crud that was inside the goggles right into my eye. Embedded it! I do not make it a habit to run right to the Doc at every ache or pain, but I was unable to get this one out on my own so there was trip # 2. They dug that piece out also. Yesterday I was under a truck and needed to heat up one bolt. I did not bother with the torch goggles for the tiny job that this was ( I know, stuuupid) As I was heating the bolt, something popped and something was driven past my clear glasses and into the eye. I always wear my perscription glasses with safty lenses but they dont have side shields. What do all of you guys do for regular eye protection? I find goggles over glasses awkward, but so is loosing an eye. I am considering perscription safty glasses with side shields etc.
If you arent using eye protection, learn from my pain and start wearing it. If you are, lets compare notes on what works for you.
Tim
