Installing and Reaming Valve Guides?

My '67 Dodge service manual says to ream newly installed valve guides on the 251. Chilton doesn't say anything about reaming the valve guides. I installed new Clevite valve guides from NAPA. The valves seem to fit in the guides just fine. Is reaming the guides something that maybe used to have to be done but that modern guides don't need? Or is reaming meant to correct any out-of-round condition in the bore caused by driving in the new guide?

Also, the manuals say to install the valve guides to .875" below the top of the block. I don't have a dial indicator, but by my calculations that's 7/8". When I installed the new guides a few ended up being driven a tad below that. Is this a big problem? Thanks for any advice.
