As Todd said, it was used in autos but it is a 251 engine. The original engine is a 230. From the performance standpoint it is desirable, if authenticity is your goal it is a detriment. It also depends how nicely it was installed. I have a parts truck with a 251 that when they moved the radiator forward they cut a big hole out of the radiator shroud and let the radiator stick out the front. Cave men at work! You can see the effects of their stone tools on the cutout.
