When I did mine in pre-internet days, I burned a hole in my cover, then welded a patch made of 3 sides of rectangular tubing, notched and bent over the hole. It looked real gnarly and industrial. Today, I would make a spacer out of 1/2" aluminum- it works with woodworking tools.

But in todays world, more parts are available than 30 years ago. Keep looking.
