Hey? I didn't start nothing? ha. I realized while refurbishing my truck, with it's present gearing, there was a huge drivabilty issue. Contrary to popular belief,I plan on driving this truck, and some off roading, with-out getting stupid.
After I talked with Dennis about his unit, I find out it is a British built Laycock unit,
wich has been around for a long time. This is basicly the same unit Gear venders copied.
After talking with a good friend of mine who has been in the 4x4 of-road business for 30 years, and sell's GearVender's and other drive line products, I concluded that this was the way to go for me. This little unit will easly handle 400+ lbft of torque, and
24,000lb gross weight.
In direct drive I see no problem at all. You never want to back-up with it in "OD" or you will destroy the unit. That is a disappointment, how-ever life go's on. If I was re-powering like Paul and others then I would go the route of modern OD Trans, and Transfer case, although some of these Trans. (5or6 speed) that there putting in some of these trucks today are in my opinion Junk.
If all I did with my truck was trail-ride and play in the mud or serious off-roading, then this probably is not what I would want.
So for I am very pleased with the differance it has made in the truck, No regrets here at-all. If I break it working the truck,or on a trail-ride, Oh-well, play hard, pay hard.
Everything is going to break sometime or another. TGP.
