Th darkening of the internal components is normal, You have to remembere that the inner temp of the crank case is about 300 degrees, enough to slowly bake a coating of oil onto the parts. Like seasoning an iron skillet. The thrust bearing is something else though. Is is so bad that the crank is probably scored to the point of needing to be welded up and re-ground - doable by all crank shops, or buy another core.
