The old (good) ones are very hard to find. I have seen them on Holmes twin boom wrecker bodies, so wrecker suppliers MAY have them. I had no luck at the local rigging and slinging company.

They do make a new one that has only one nut. They should work just as well if you use two of them end to end. Go to the Mcmaster web site. Search for Wire Rope Clamp. I find them on page 1258. They are called "Grip It Clamps".

It looks like they do not make the 7/16" version anymore. I am using the 1/2" version (of the old style) on 7/16" cable. Someone here is going to give me grief about this, but a 7/16" clamp of this style is almost too tight on 7/16" cable. Even the ones designed for 1/2" cable can not be tightened down all the way, on the 7/16" cable. This may be because I am weaving a Flemish Eye, or it may be because they were just designed with that much cable compression in mind. (This is the old style I am talking about here).

I have been using them for 20 years and have never had one even begin to let loose even under severe use. The Flemish Eye is really what is doing the work. With this, the Grip It clamp, or Monkey Fist as I call it, is just holding the loose end and providing some valuable insurance.
