In Reply to: Oil Pressure/wrong filter - re-post from last forum posted by Matt Wilson on Monday, January 31, 2005 at 11:10AM :

It seemed to me that the diagram by GTK shows that oil only flows through the filter when the relief valve bypasses. If so, the filter condition would have no bearing on oil pressure in the block. But if the relief valve is stuck open, then it would by-pass oil to the filter at all times, making the filter in effect the relief pressure control via being a restriction. Certainly the filter should have seals to prevent bypassing the filter element- it's not filtering if seals can change the pressure. Normal idle pressure should be about 15, the relief valve prevents over-pressue at higher revs, and is ussually set about 35. Pressure relief valve won't raise pressure at idle, but it can lower it if stuck open.

While I don't mind making people think rather than allowing you to go through life in a rote manner, I hope I'm not just starting a wild goose chase. I have no direct experience with oil filter/ pressure problems on this model, but it just don't all add up to me. An oil flow diagram would help a lot towards diagnosis. Can anybody post one? Showing filter flow?
