See photo..first, check and see if there is sufficient brake contact when the de-clutch lever is in the disengaged position. If the brake shoe is barely contacting the spool drum, then you need to adjust it. To adjust the drag brake: first you loosen the 'limit stop lock nut' (of course not in the picture!!) It secures the 'LIMIT STOP NUT'. Then adjust the limit stop nut untill the drag on the spool drum is sufficient to hold it in position. Then tighten the 'limit stop lock nut' against the limit stop nut' and it should work fine! (the attached picture is missing the 'limit stop lock nut') The internal brake assy should only be adjusted when the winch will not hold from turning when under a load and the pto control is in neutral! If you adjust this brake too tight it will just wear out rapidly! It is a spring loaded directional brake, in other words it is 'released when pulling the line in but self actuates when un spooling or when the load attempts to unspool the winch line. Have fun!!
