aligning driveshaft between transmission and t-case

I installed my 230 in pw and noticed that the output on the transmission seems much higher than the input to the transfer case. Since the driveshaft between them is so short I would think that they should be in the same plane. I noticed about an inch of shims under the front engine support on my '51. If this is typical it would raise the front of the engine and lower the rear. Or is this misalignment typical and of no concern, tia
