Last post of mine ended up out of place, sorry...

Cats have about a 20-50 mile range, or circuit they run all their life. Along the way they will develop several 'dens' or sleeping places. They'll kill even if they're not hungry, tree the food on a limb, and come back later for a snack. They are constantly on the move except when they're killing, eating, napping or sleeping. How long it takes them to return to a spot depends on what food they've found elsewhere. They'll hang in a particular area for weeks at times if the killing/eating is good.

Dave, I absolutely would not consider going after that cat armed with only a camera! The cats around your area there aren't all that big, but even 150-180 lbs of cat is way beyond your strength and natural weapons!! You have a right to defend yourself even in that National Forest, and hassling with a judge sure beats having your family hassling for the best price from an undertaker. Think about it...and take a gun with you!
