Judd mentioned the smell of old gear lube...When I was a kid growing up in SW Washington, I used to follow my forester dad out on visits to all the old gypo loggers living way back out in the brush. The homesteads were surrounded by old Cat's, A-frames, steam donkey engines & home made yarders, etc, etc. The smell of that ancient grease & gear lube on a damp, balmy winter day in the Pac NW is one I'll never forget. Just caught a whiff of it a few minutes ago when I walked by past my '57 that I just recently retrieved from just such a place. I'll get her back on the road, but I'd like to do it without losing that smell.
