I never did get my head round the guage-numbering systems, UK or US.

The Carryall bodyshell is 'thin' in my book, whereas all the bits that were adapted for military use are 'thick' So the rear fenders on a WC 53 are thick but they bolt to a thin shell. All the inside metal is'thin' except for the carrier plates for the rear winder mechanisms.

Check out the relative thicknesses of the tailgate and liftgate too. The tailgate metal is on the chunky side, whereas the liftgate is so thin if it wasn't painted you could see through it.

What do I use ? Well I buy 1mm sheetmetal and use that for everything except the glovebox lid re-skin. For the glovebox lid skins you need really thin stuff so I use some of the galvanized sheetemtal that had been screwed to the back of my Tucker Sno-Cat to make a temporary back body.....
