12 volt conversions

Am I the only dummy that found out that the pulley from a 6 volt generator will fit a GM 10SI alternator once the rear flange is milled down 1/2 inch? diameters and shaft sizes are the same and the alt. doesn't require the woodruff like the gen did. Anybody do this and did it work?
