Hi George,
It is a 12v neg ground. I did take out the old batterys and replaced them with AAs. A bit of laekage from the od ones but not alot and it seemed to clean up well. The tach needle is free but thats all I know about it. It is a low rpm unit, and is a black bakelite face. It is a very Power Wagon appropriate look.
