The 4.56 IS a granny gear, just not as low as the deeper first gear. It served us well for many years and was low enough gear for the way we used it. Never ran out of power with a BB. The real problem with it is second gear starts. It is hard to do smoothly. Was anyway, since I have a lower first gear in it now.=) I only changed it for a lower second gear since first had always been low enough for us. Might not be for you though.
